British Books Challenge: April Reviews Link up post

Welcome to the fourth month of the British Books Challenge

The winner of the March Prize Pack is the blogging team at We Sat Down (please email me your address by 5th March)

PRIZES ANNOUNCEMENT

I am no longer offering first to review prizes. Put quite simply this is because I have received abusive emails from bloggers demanding free books (which is rich when the books they are reviewing aren't even British) and I do not have the time or energy to have to deal with such rude and selfish behaviour. I know the majority of bloggers doing the challenge are more concerned with the achievement of having read a wider variety of British Authors so I'm sure they won't be too worried about this news.

The thing that actually makes me most angry is those people who have been rude to me would have had more luck had they just been pleasant. My blogging friends are the most generous bunch I know and had they got involved in the lovely UK blogging community a bit more I'm sure one of us would have offered them to send them books at some point anyway. Anyway ....

April Prize Pack

April's Prize pack will be a lovely Young Sherlock Holmes Prize Pack donated by Macmillan

Wow - I can't believe people have been abusive when you're clearly spending a lot of time and effort to encourage British books to be read. Grr...

I have to confess that I've been enjoying this challenge more than any I did last year because I never feel like I have to read British books or am limited to a certain genre. Plus I've read a few books that I might have picked up so quickly if they weren't by British authors! So I'd like to say thanks Kirsty for all your effort!

Hi Kirsty, This is our first blogging reading challenge and I'm enjoying it. I've never really taken note of where fiction has been published first before or paid attention to where the authors are based. And it's great to have a goal :)

Sorry to hear you've been getting hassle - there's always one - or, by the sounds of it here, a few - who have to spoil it and take people for a ride. I really appreciate the time and effort you've put in to hosting the challenge - I've been reading my "to be reviewed" pile as usual so it's been really intriguing to see what proportion of ARCs are British, as well as keeping track of how many books I actually read each month !

Anyway, my first review is up - Jennie Dodd's The Gemini Spell (which is set in Australia but the author is English) !

Hi, Sorry to hear you've been given some grief (some folks online behaviour is beyond belief).
I've just posted a link to a review for Becoming Nancy (which I won for being an early reviewer). I see that you'd reviewed it too, and I made a sure to write mine before I read yours.
It's not on my blog, but linked to my GoodReads review.

That's just terrible.I can't believe that people can behave like that.

its quite sad that you have had so much trouble with people because of this. I dont blame you at all for stopping the first to review prize!

It's sad that people would get abusive over that! I'm glad you're still continuing the reviews - 'cause I think you're doing a great job with it!!
I'm all linked up ... I cannot stand it when a small handful of individuals completely ruin what would be a lovely (and generous) offer.

They are not good bloggers at all.
