Review: The Truth about Forever by Sarah Dessen

The Truth about Forever by Sarah Dessen
Published by Penguin

Sixteen-year-old Macy Queen is looking forward to a long, boring summer. Her boyfriend is going away. She's stuck with a dull-as-dishwater job at the library. And she'll spend all of her free time studying for the SATs or grieving silently with her mother over her father's recent unexpected death. But everything changes when Macy is corralled into helping out at one of her mother's open house events, and she meets the chaotic Wish Catering crew. Before long, Macy joins the Wish team. She loves everything about, the work and the people. But the best thing about Wish is Wes—artistic, insightful, and understanding Wes—who gets Macy to look at life in a whole new way, and really start living it.

This is probably going to be less a review and more a "why I love Sarah Dessen's books".

Sarah Dessen's books are the book equivalent of spending a day curled on the sofa in your pjs drinking hot chocolate because btoh make you feel warm and cosy. Yes her books aren't hitting drama or gritty but that's not what I expect when I start reading them. I love that they are usually upbeat on the whole (albeit a bit tinged with sadness) with awesome characters that you can warm too and most importantly a gorgeous boy or two to swoon over.

This book is not exception. You meet macy. Macy has had a hard time of it. Her father died in circumstances which left her feeling guilty about it. Her mum has totally shut down and become a workaholic, she's stuck doing a job she hates with colleagues which are nasty to her and her perfect boyfriend is a total arse.
Things start to get better when Macy starts working for Delia and her catering company. through it she meets Kristy, Wes, Bert and Monica. Through them she has a whole new social circle and starts to see that life can actually be quite fun.

As always with a Sarah dessen the storyline is a little bit predictable: Girl meets Boy/ likes boy/ can't be with boy/ something happens to keep them apart/ everything works out ok, but as I said before it's almost this predictableness that I love and the feeling that I know exactly what I'm getting.

A perfect girly read for that lazy weekend!

I have this at home, and am eager to read it! Glad you enjoyed it! I hope I will :)
This is my second favorite Dessen (after This Lullaby, which I feel is sort of a divergence from the typical Dessen novel because MC Remy is so bold) because I love Macy, Wes, and their game of Truth so much!
