In My Mail Box (3)

Hosted by Kristi at www.thestorysiren.com

I thought I was going to have a really quiet week this week. This all changed when I had to go to London at the end of the week. It was all very exciting and as you'll see below it has doubled my haul for the week

Swapped books from www.readitswapit.cou.uk

13 Reasons Why by Jay Asher.

I have been waiting for this to arrive for ages and was actually getting quite annoyed about it and had almost written off ever seeing it but it is finally here!!!! Not heard too much about it but looking forward to reading it all the same

Leviathan by Scott Westerfeld.

I absolutely loved the Uglies series - I don't really know why it has taken me this long to seek out more Scott Westerfeld. This looks like it will be eaxctly my sort of thing with the History twist and nothing like uglies at all. Very excited about this one

Bitten by Kelley Armstrong

- I have never read any Kelley Armstrong - This is probably an oversight on my part. I saw this come up on the top 100 books of the day and thought I'd give it go. For reasons you'll see below I am probably now tied into the entire epic series!

Books from www.Amazon.co.uk

I had a bit of a freak out earlier this week due to my lack of books so had to go and buy some. The three I got were quite exciting indeed.

The Hostage by Sophie McKenzie.

I didn't intend on buying this as such at the moment as I have a huge backlog of books to read anyway. However I had to change my mind as I found out that Sophie McKenzie is coming to my work to do an afternoon with the kids. (before you get excited it is a closed event - I will report back though) I am more excited than the kids so have bought this ready for signing. I believe the event was actually organised by the lovely people at the children's book centre (If any of you ever come to Norfolk this place is amazing).

Monsters of Men - Patrick Ness

Another book that I didn't need but Amazon.co.uk had the signed version so I got it. Available here. I am looking forward to this one quite a lot as I have just started the book before it. Beautiful edition too!

The Sky is eveywhere - Jandy Nelson

I got this only got this because the reviews I have seen online have been good. I am certainly not disappointed. Before even opening it the edition I got is the most gorgeous book I have ever seen. It looks like someone's diary and has colour pages of Lennies poem scattered throughout adding to the story. I have actually already managed to read this book (and did it in open evening on the train to London. I would highly recommend and will review it soon.

Books from Forbidden Plant

This is where things get exciting. I ended up in London this week (well I did know I was going but it crept up on me). It was my annual weekend working for the exam board (I mark GCSE papers). usually I don't actually get to do much of the tourist scene as I'm working but I did catch a show and managed to get into Forbidden Planet. I love this place and managed to pick up the following signed gems (yes signed! squeals with excitement). They do have a few of the things I'm going to mention available on their website but if you're in the area it's worth popping your head in. They have an amazing book section and often have signed copies just hidden in with the normal shelves so you have to hunt!

I picked up the following books (which I won't picture as I am struggling to get the uploading thingy to deal with them today.

Frostbite by Richelle Mead (They actually had a lot more different books signed by her)
Frostbitten by Kelley Armsrong
Ironside by Holly Black (hidden up in the shelves)
The dead girls dance by Rachel caine (again they had a lot of Rachel caine signed)
The Last days by Scott Westerfeld

Most of these are no good to me in the short term as they are from series I haven't started but I am excited all the same. Living in Norfolk means it is very rare any authors visit (except good old Philip Pullman but he is a norfolk boy at heart).

I thought Thirteen Reasons Why was amazing. I read it when it first came out, so I don't remember a whole lot of it, but I know I loved it. Happy reading!

I loved Leviathan - very different from Uglies, but so, so good! I'd also recommend Westerfeld's Midnighters trilogy. I feel like those books get overshadowed by the popularity of Uglies, but they're really good and creepy, too!

I love Richelle Mead! Have you read any more of her Vampire Academy series? I liked Leviathan "okay" but it was kind of juvenile for me. Still a good book though. Happy reading!
Kathy - they have frostbitten signed on the Forbidden planet website

Not read any of vampire diaries - I may have to start them soon
