Review - a gathering light, Jennifer Donnelly

Although I didn't love this book it did have its merits. It was a gentle tale which gave nice insight into life at the turn of the last century in America. I liked the character of Mattie and thought that she was probably the best thing about the book. There were lots of twists and turns and it got quite fast paced towards the end of the book. I did buy this however thinking it would be like the Lake of Dead languages which it isn't. The murder mystery which I thought was at the heart of it was just a side show and I thought there could have been an awful lot more done with it. I did find the book confusing at times when trying to work out past and present in it. Certainly worth the read if you have the time.

Next book - the Ask and the Answer by Patrick Ness
