Review: Requiem by Lauren Oliver

Battling against a society in which love has been declared a disease, Lena now finds herself at the centre of a fierce revolution. But the Wilds are no longer the haven they once were as the government seeks to stamp out the rebels. And Lena's emotions are in turmoil following the dramatic return of someone she thought was lost forever... Told from the alternating viewpoints of Lena and her best friend Hana, Requiem brings the Delirium trilogy to an exhilarating end and showcases Lauren Oliver at the height of her writing powers - emotionally powerful and utterly enthralling My Thoughts I must admit the review for this one is going to be short. I wanted to hold off posting it online until closer to the publication date and therefore didn't write it as soon as I finished it which means I can't actually remember it as clearly as I would like (note to self write review asap after finishing in future). For me this book didn't live up to either the hype ar...

Review: The Vincent Brothers by Abbi Glines

Sawyer Vincent is still heartbroken over his breakup with Ashton Grey - made worse because he lost her to his brother - but Lana McDaniel thinks she might just have a cure. Lana's lived in her cousin Ashton's shadow all her life, but now she's taking the lead and is determined to make Sawyer her man. But can she be sure that Sawyer's not just using her to get back at Ashton? And what if Sawyer sees through her new sexy version of herself and discovers the shy, geeky girl she used to be? THE VINCENT BROTHERS picks up where THE VINCENT BOYS left off - with twice the fun, twice the excitement and twice the sexy. I'd been waiting excitedly for this book for a while and while I'm not sure if was as good as the first one in the series it certainly was an enjoyable read. For me the appeal of this book was without a doubt the hot boys. While I don't think it was as steamy as the previous book in the series it certainly had enough there to keep my hot b...

Bookcase Showcase: Author Jo Hall

The SIGNED AND SPECIAL books in the bedroom - that's where most of the signed ones are, though a few have escaped on to other shelves. The Lord of The Rings was a present for my 18th from my mum, the big Hobbit was for my 21st. The Thomas the Tank Engine belongs to Chris - his dad made it for him. BIG SHELF IN THE PIT - the Pit is my study. The elft hand wall is all CD,s DVD's, games and books. The opposite wall is supposed to be work, but the work folders are having to give way to more books. I have a rare almost-complete collection of unsigned Terry Pratchetts. BOOKCASE BY THE BEDROOM - the golf umbrella and skateboard are mine. More recent acquisitions get piled up on top unless I can cull space for them. In a previous flat we had to take the bathroom door off to make room for a bookcase... BOOKSHELF ABOVE MY PC - this is mainly research books; history, psychology, child development, lit crit, pop science, dictionaries (I've got ten, inc...

Review: The girl you left behind by Jojo Moyes

What happened to the girl you left behind? In 1916 French artist Edouard Lefevre leaves his wife Sophie to fight at the Front. When her town falls into German hands, his portrait of Sophie stirs the heart of the local Kommandant and causes her to risk everything - her family, reputation and life - in the hope of seeing her true love one last time. Nearly a century later and Sophie's portrait is given to Liv by her young husband shortly before his sudden death. Its beauty speaks of their short life together, but when the painting's dark and passion-torn history is revealed, Liv discovers that the first spark of love she has felt since she lost him is threatened... In The Girl You Left Behind two young women, separated by a century, are united in their determination to fight for the thing they love most - whatever the cost. My thoughts I must admit I started this book and I wasn't sure if I'd like it in the end but actually I kind of loved it. The s...

Review: Almost True by Keren David

Ruthless killers are hunting Ty so the police move him and his mum to a quiet seaside town. But a horrific attack and a bullet meant for Ty prove that he’s not safe. On the road again, Ty’s in hiding with complete strangers . . . who seem to know a lot about him. Meanwhile he’s desperate to see his girlfriend Claire, and terrified that she may betray him. Ty can’t trust his own judgement and he’s making dangerous decisions that could deliver him straight to the gangsters. A thrilling sequel to When I Was Joe, shot through with drama and suspense. My thoughts A brilliant read which had me hooked from the first page. I read the first book in this series a while back and have been meaning to reading this for a while. From the moment I picked it up I knew I was going to struggle to put it down as I found it addictively engaging because the storyline was pacey and action packed. In this book you get to know more about Ty's background as he finds out for himself f...

Review: Burn for Burn by Jenny Han and Siobhan Vivian

Lillia has never had any problems dealing with boys who like her. Not until this summer, when one went too far. No way will she let the same thing happen to her little sister. Kat is tired of the rumours, the insults, the cruel jokes. It all goes back to one person– her ex-best friend– and she's ready to make her pay. Four years ago, Mary left Jar Island because of a boy. But she's not the same girl anymore. And she's ready to prove it to him. Three very different girls who want the same thing: sweet, sweet revenge. And they won't stop until they each had a taste. My thoughts  An interesting enough read following 3 teenage girls as they take revenge on their peers. I enjoyed the setting of the book a lot and loved the small community feel of it. I liked getting to know the three main characters and getting under the skin of why they were doing the things they were doing. I parti...
